This spacious four bedroom villa is exceptionally well-located, inviting and characterful. The sweeping seaviews from the expansive verandah and garden are impressive and restful as framed by mature trees. The architectural cues blend old and new pleasingly.
As one enters the property through ornate commissioned gatework and a stolid teak door, the welcoming main living reception areas open out as you descend entrance lobby steps into a very large open-plan main space. The imaginative design is one of generous proportions and thoughtful layout accommodating practicality and winning homely features. The eye is drawn beyond to the full-width verandah and pool terrace and large secluded garden below. To one side of the main reception room here is a large koi carp fish pond with many large and valuable specimens (imported from Japan) while a crescent-shaped wooden bar and green baize snooker/ pool table are positioned invitingly between here and the terrace. There is a guest bathroom here with porthole window, one of numerous maritime decorations: wooden galleon models are suspended or adorn display alcoves. A central large light timber cabinet (from Germany, as are other pieces) is bookended either side by a family of wooden giraffes of varying heights and a rhino; an animal skin sits on a cabinet. The use of stone wall slabs throughout the lounge areas creates a reassuringly warm snug feel as exemplified by the large feature fireplace. One can imagine roaring fires here providing a warming snugness. Couches and a diverse assortment of cosy armchairs are centred around the fireplace or provide a vantage point for the large pull-down home-cinema television screen. This is concealed effectively in a ceiling mounting that incorporates surround sound speakers that extend on to the terrace and is operated by an integrated hi-tech remote control. With such marvellous sea-views one is drawn to eating outdoors on the dining terrace where, should the weather be chill, in built patio heaters provide warmth. Conversely, hidden blind awnings are electrically operated if the sea glare and mid-afternoon heat haze prove intrusive. Full-height patio doors maximise the use of light here. The terrace has a large stainless steel barbecue and, unusually, a stone pizza oven. A notably long full-width swimming pool of unobtrusive black slate features bench seating to allow one to sip a sundowner against the backdrop of the sea beyond. Alternatively, invitingly deep cushioned recliner sunloungers allow you to soak up the scene from this superb vantage spot. Manicured lawns invite one down steps to the serenity of a maturely planted garden with wrought iron garden table and chairs. One enjoys privacy here as you are not overlooked.
The full-specification kitchen has a central counter island with attractive overhanging copper pots and pans. Large party catering is facilitated by double ovens and gas hobs. Worktops surfaces are finished in practical and beautiful caesarstone complemented by light sage green cabinets. There is an adjacent patio for al fresco informal dining or you can have breakfast sitting at a bar stool. The open-plan arrangement with adjoining formal dining room, featuring a distinctive frosted glass table and large mirror walls, makes for an ideal entertaining venue as does the inviting and very large dark wood terrace dining table seating twelve. This table was commissioned as a unique piece and is complemented by many other highly striking wood furniture sideboards, cabinets and decorative pieces. An amusing distinctively South African seven foot slim wooden carved figure here lends a homely touch by the dining area.
A floating staircase with signature individually wrought banister rails take you upstairs to the master en suite bedroom and three guest bedrooms. Many Dali block prints decorate the landing passage. The bedroom has an adjoining office isolatable by sliding doors and enjoys a private terrace sharing the fine sea views and being all the more dramatic for the elevated aspect. A passage to the rear has an ample walk-in wardrobe and large bathroom with striking picture window framing the Lions Head mountain. A large freestanding oval bathtub is complemented by sinuously wavy washbasin marble-topped counters. An intimate wooden sauna and shower lie beyond. The main front-facing guest bedroom is also en suite and spacious. Two further bedrooms are located to the rear as is a bathroom enjoying views across the panorama of the Twelve Apostles mountain range peaks. Both rooms have wide L-shaped balconies with impressive views including one up to the Table Mountain upper cable car station. Presently, these rooms are decorated as a child’s. The landing has a storage room and laundry room facility. A modern mirror-wall gym area sits under the main living room accessible near the housekeepers quarters.
A comprehensive domestic service is provided by a live-in housekeeper and cook together with a handyman should routine maintenance be necessary. Secure parking is afforded in a double garage while state-of-the art motion sensor security has recently been installed.
