| Designed by local Cape architect, Arthur Quinton, this luxurious villa is in a perfect location and commands what is arguably one of the best views of the coastline. The spectacular outdoor entertaining terrace is lined with retractable glass doors, so that the eight-seater dining area and the second lounge both flow seamlessly outdoors, opening up the entire living area. The pièce de résistance is its sparkling blue pool with jaw-dropping views and stone-clad wall. The outdoor seating area and designer gas barbeque are perfect for balmy summer evening gatherings, especially as the sun goes down and the lights begin to twinkle below. Sensitive lighting really changes the atmosphere of the house in the evenings, when it becomes an über-glamorous showstopper perfect for elegant cocktails or alfresco parties with good friends, excellent wine and delicious food. Inside, exotic Moroccan and Indian touches complement the interior with beautiful glass and silverware, sensual fabrics, and carved furnishings and finishes added to soften the clean, architectural lines of the villa. A fishi pond and soothing water feature in the courtyard off the formal lounge area adds to the tranquil atmosphere and cools the upper level in the heat of summer. Colours are in muted turquoises and shades of chocolate in both formal and informal living areas, giving a sense of calm. And once the doors are open on either side, the entire space is airy and cool. A stone-clad gas fireplace is the focus of the formal living area which is wonderfully warm later in the evenings. The open-plan kitchen, in a combination of wood, stainless steel and translucent glass, is set back slightly from the formal lounge area and is fully equipped so that entertaining is a breeze. Skylights add natural light over the bar counter. Three comfortable, carpeted bedrooms occupy the floor below, two with sea views and the third with its own private, enclosed courtyard with a spiral staircase leading back up to the pool terrace. Both sea-facing bedrooms have glorious views and the bathrooms have superior fixtures and fittings. The main en-suite has glorious views of the sea and mountain through glass windows at ceiling level and down the side of the bath. All bedrooms have plenty of storage, satellite television and underfloor heating is provided throughout for cooler evenings. Both sea-facing rooms lead out through glass sliding doors onto their own private, landscaped garden terraces. There is garaging for one car and off-street parking for three in Strathmore Road which is a quiet cul-de-sac that does not invite much traffic, even in high season. An elevator provides convenient access to all floors. The popular Camps Bay beach is literally a five-minute walk downhill and the wind-free beaches of Clifton are two minutes by car. |
