Camps Bay

Cape Town, South Africa

This charming five bedroom beach side cottage on Glen Beach has all the attractions of a secluded beach setting, with the modern day comforts of elegant living, with each floor enjoying a very distinctive feel.

This very private home occupies a 1,000sqm site that is completely concealed from its neighbours by verdant tropical foliage. Dolphin Cottage is perfectly situated only steps from the most discreet and private sand beach in Cape Town and adjacent to the much larger and popular Camps Bay beach and restaurants. This deceptively spacious villa is in the most popular part of Cape Town and yet completely private and hidden from the outside world, such that even locals who know the area have trouble finding it.
Completely remodeled in late 2010, the cottage exudes an atmosphere of elegant repose with light clapboard colonial exteriors and restful invitingly warm interiors of intricate design and polished finishes of mahogany and other exotic woods.

Bedrooms and Bathroom:
All bedrooms and bathrooms are individually fitted, each one being completely unique to the other.

FIRST FLOOR
The first floor is dedicated solely to the spacious master bedroom suite with an intricate wooden ceiling of interwoven trusses redolent of maritime design. A central wardrobe partition separates the bedroom suite from the very private ensuite lounge. There is a wide balcony to the front facilitating expansive sea views and views of Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostils mountain range, while two further balconies lead off on both sides. To one side the balcony looks through the trees to the pool and back garden and enjoys views of Lions Head while on the other side a spacious private sun deck beckons. Offset, to the rear is a comfortable open study with fax and broadband internet connectivity.
The spacious 1st floor ensuite bathroom has a walk-in double shower, elongated oval freestanding bath and onyx topped washbasin cabinets, with magnificent mountain views on one side and sea views on the other. Brass chandeliers adorn the ceilings, while sumptuously upholstered furniture and dark stained wooden floors lend a decadent touch. The seafaring feel is underscored by sea facing portholes in the separate shower room.
GROUND FLOOR
The double ensuite bedroom on the ground floor is also very private with double doors leading onto the spacious front deck and enjoys a classic frontal sea view through the palms trees, with views into the tropical jungle on the side.

The ground floor bathroom has an extra large bathtub, mahogany furnishings, thick pile carpets and classic Victorian fittings that compliment the tropical jungle radiating through the large sash windows. This bathroom also benefits from an outdoor shower hidden in the trees on the front deck.

LOWER GROUND FLOOR
On the lower ground floor, a double ensuite bedroom looks onto a waterfall, with two single bedrooms looking into the garden and sharing a bathroom. The two lower ground bathrooms have a clean modern feel utilising limestone, travertine and caesar stone.

Living Areas:
The interiors are imaginatively decorated to the highest standards in quality materials and finishes.
The main ground floor reception living room has solid wood panel floors, crystal chandeliers and a Steinway concert grand piano. A relaxed feel has been retained while splashes of luxury prevent it from becoming too informal. The look is part colonial, part afro chic, decorated in an eclectic mix of interesting pieces, natural fabrics and comfortable furnishing. Wide patio doors open onto a large wooden sea facing deck on one side and the spacious garden and pool decks on the other.
On the other side of the hallway, a relaxing television lounge with Persian rugs and striking wallpaper opens onto the rear garden jungle, while also enjoying mountain views through the trees.
A fully equipped kitchen allows for seamless entertaining of both large and small groups
An elegant central staircase, framed by a 9m high window with magnificent mountain views, takes one to the large sunny lounge on the lower ground floor, which opens onto a courtyard surrounded by impenetrable tropical jungle, with a wooden staircase going back up to the front deck. There is also a full-specification kitchen here (which services the 3 bedrooms on this floor) and a classic brick wine cellar with oak barrel-vaulted ceiling.
The 1st floor lounge has sea facing balconies on two sides and mountains views through or over the surrounding treetops. This very intimate space is perfect for a quite relaxing afternoon hidden away from the rest of the villa.

Outdoor:
This quintessential beachside cottage benefits from a setting of spacious seclusion with abundant mature trees and palms, an expansive pool patio, separate barbecue and entertainment area and restful cascading stream that runs down the full length of the property. The wind-free location is set back from the beach and is concealed from its neighbours by thick tropical vegetation with mountain views on three sides. The privacy of the gardens affords the property fine sea and beach views on two sides, framed by numerous palm trees, which also effectively provide shade and protection from the mid afternoon heat and sea glare.
The 16m heated pool has an attractive grotto at one end, spacious sundecks, an outdoor shower and a comfortable sauna. An inviting shipwreck style outdoor seating area under the tree canopy on the wide front deck provides a unique dining experience with stunning sea views.

Other:
The villa comes fully serviced with a butler and cleaning staff. Meals can be cooked at the villa on request.

Double garaging is provided while separate staff quarters for two is located discreetly off the back courtyard accessible from the lower ground floor. In addition, there is a sophisticated security monitoring television surveillance system controlling the house and surrounding area.

Rates Include:
Made to order breakfasts including fresh pressed juices
Fully stocked fridge with luxury nibbles, cool drinks and fruit juices
